I have tried to explain to misinformed friends that the artwork of Dragon’s Crown is not an attempt at ignorant hypersexualisation, but merely the artist’s own intentional drawing style. And I failed. Amanda Lange manages to find the words that I could not with her excellent writeup. This is a proper game review of what Dragon’s Crown is about. It also addresses the game’s controversial artwork, and puts all of its misguided criticism to rest.
I am all for better depictions of women in gaming. But people need to recognise when a game is being clearly disrespectful of women, and when it is not. Dragon’s Crown is not. If we blindly condemn every piece of artwork featuring females with big boobs and exposed flesh, then we are condemning them simply because there’s a woman on the page. And that people, is called sexism. Which is ironic, because you have now become the venom that you were supposedly trying to defend against.
Also, I love boobs. There, I admitted it. BOOBS.
