Brock Lesnar lost, but an equally deserving champion stole the spotlight. I’ve said it before from the very beginning when Seth Rollins got promoted from NXT: he deserves to hold the title. If you have ever watched AJ Styles wrestling at his peak in TNA, Rollins reminds me a bit of AJ. His Phoenix Splash finisher from the turnbuckle is a modified adaptation of Styles’s famous Spiral Tap.
Rollins has the agility and speed to perform counter-wrestling and high-flying moves, but he also backs it up with grappling moves and wrestling holds. While he does not have the raw strength of Lesnar to perform endless suplexes, his all-rounded repertoire already makes him a great future champion.
I cannot say the same for Roman Reigns. I have no doubt that Reigns is a diligent, hardworking person backstage. But who would you rather hold the title? Lesnar, Rollins, or Reigns? The former two are the way better wrestlers and entertainers in the ring.
I have to admit that I was extremely worried about the outcome of this year’s title match. The mere thought of Reigns becoming champion was absolutely terrifying, and many fans shared the same mindset too. I’m glad that HHH and VKM made the right decision to give Rollins the belt. And the fans in the Levi’s Stadium roared their approval after Rollins’s victory.
Well done, Seth. Now, do the right thing and defend it fairly against Lesnar and other upcoming challengers.
