Long gone are the days where Sir Alex Ferguson would turn to his reserve youngsters to fill up vacant roles in the first team. Ryan Giggs, David Beckham, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes, the Neville brothers, Wes Brown, Darren Fletcher (back when he was still decent), and John O’Shea just to name a few.
The current young ‘uns in the reserve side are utter shit, with the sole exception of James Wilson (he deserves to start on the bench). Louis van Gaal knows this, and has begun a massive spending spree. Never in the history of Manchester United, have the Red Devils resorted to spending money like paper. Luke Shaw (£30 million), and now Angel di Maria (£60 million). And it looks like the splurge is going to continue, with Arturo Vidal and Daley Blind rumoured to be Van Gaal’s next targets.
The Sir Alex era is truly dead. RIP the Man United of old. I really like Van Gaal as a manager though, he is brutally honest and unafraid to voice his opinions. He has already repeatedly stated that the current team is lousy, and that winning the Premier League in his first season in charge would take a “miracle”. I’ll continue to support the team, but I have to prepare myself for more future horrible results like MK Dons 4-0 Man United, because performances like that are starting to become the norm.
