I fell sick on the final day of army reservist (perfect timing) with an upper respiratory tract infection. The usual sore throat followed by massive bouts of coughing as my body tries to expel all the phlegm from my throat.
Except this time, I coughed so hard that I injured and pulled a muscle on my upper back. That’s an interesting first. At one point the pain was so strong that I could barely stand or even do simple taichi moves without feeling terribly winded. Exhaling deeply also triggers it. And the pain that comes from trying to sleep is even worse — just lying down hurts. A lot.
Unfortunately, acupressure massage would be absolutely useless for this because the pain is coming internally from my respiratory muscles. I had no choice but to just endure, and perhaps distract my mind with some gaming and pro wrestling. In the end I gave up at 8pm and tried to fall asleep… I think it took me until 11pm to fall unconscious.
The last time I felt this much agony was when I got food poisoning back in 2012. But I have endured far greater sources of pain from far greater sources of evil. I will accept this pain because as long as I am not dead, it makes me stronger.
