An interesting look at how CafeId was formed. Fans of fighting games should be vaguely familiar with that term: a CafeId player won the King of Fighters XIII tournament at EVO 2012 in a hotly contested finals that is still considered to be one of the most hyped-up in EVO history.
What impresses me most about CafeId is that their members play almost everything. Super Street Fighter IV and KOF13 are the popular mainstay games of course, but they also have members who are passionate about Dead or Alive 5 and even Melty Blood Actress Again: Current Code. They don’t discriminate between games, which is already a miraculous fact considering how much crap the anime-FGC gets in the West and even here in Singapore.
In Singapore, we have our own gaming cafe that is trying to do roughly the same thing that CafeId is doing: Tough Cookie Gaming Cafe. Unfortunately, Tough Cookie is plagued by mismanagement and a history of bad relations with other members of the community. That is another topic for another day.
