I am not saying that Logitech makes the best gaming mice. I’ve never used a Corsair or Razer mouse, for example, so there’s no real way for me to test that claim. But the G5 does feel like the best gaming mouse I’ve used, because it has lasted me for over 11 years. The only other device in my house that has lasted close to that long is my old, tiny Sony CRT television. I think it’s over 24 years old. It’s older than Justin Bieber.
Apart from a few worn edges, faded paint job, and gobs of accumulated dust stuck between the mouse’s nooks and crannies, the G5 still works perfectly. The buttons have never failed me, the scrollwheel has never failed me, and the laser sensitivity is still as precise as I remember. The only reason why I am putting the G5 away, is because I have finally found a reason to get another mouse: the Logitech G500s. It comes with three thumb buttons. THREE!
It sounds like a really stupid reason, to replace my perfectly working aged mouse with a new one, all for the sake of getting an extra thumb button. And it probably is. But on the bright side, I now have two gaming mice in the house. One for use, one as a backup in case something goes wrong. And both are Logitech mice, so I am pretty confident that the G500s will last just as long as the first.
Goodbye, Logitech G5 (2003-2014). You helped me frag many enemies, clicked on millions of hyperlinks, and rested below my right palm for almost every single day.
