Win ratio: 76%
The past two to three months have been really lethargic for Friday night Melty. At one point, there were only two people turning up each week. Everyone else was busy with work or just too tired to come down. One pair of the MB machines was also down for almost one month (!!). Fortunately, it has already been fixed, and with it, our weekly arcade sessions have been restored to their normal routine with at least six people turning up the past two weeks. Even Joel has started coming back for Friday nights.
I may have discovered the secret to avoiding C-Satsuki’s ambiguous mixups: F-VSion. You see, F-VSion has two reversals: her EX Uppercut (623C) and EX Drill Knuckle (214C). If C-Satsuki is attempting her knockdown mix-ups, all I have to do is input 6236 in the direction I want — if Satsuki appears on the same side that I wake up, EX Uppercut will appear. If Satsuki tries to land on the opposite side, EX Drill will appear. It’s sort of like an option select, except that I need to have meter.
I doubt this option select is 100% full proof though. I’m pretty sure that Satsuki can beat it if she times her mix-up correctly with a safe jump. It’s very very difficult to practice this at home though, because I don’t play Satsuki at all. I’ll make a note of this option and try it again next time when I am facing Joey’s Satsuki.
Also managed to try out the new F-VSion hard knockdown combo I saw on NicoNico. The damage is super low (2K), but it works midscreen and leads to hard knockdown — absolutely vital for a rushdown character like F-VSion, who has even lesser ranged options than her H and C counterparts. Did not manage to try the 22B > EX cancel Arc Drive trick, I need to remember to try that when in Max Mode.
Most important of all, I was not frustrated when I lost a few matches due to some cheapness (our mortal enemy F-Aoko has returned yet again). I just shrugged it off, and tried to avoid making the same errors. I’ve been trying to change my angry mindset towards fighting games for the past few months: life is too short to always be angry even at stupid things.
Friday night Melty lives (Actress) again. I still love this game.
