Booker T was in Singapore yesterday, and of course being the crazy pro-wrestling fan that I am, I wanted to head down and get my photo taken with him. I would like to thank my good friend Allan (aka Mustapusta), who encouraged me to go early at 12pm instead of 2.45pm like I originally planned. I arrived and managed to obtain number 36 in the queue — only the first 50 people who presented their StarHub bills would be allowed to meet and greet him. Any later and I definitely would not have been able to make the queue.
It was an agonising afternoon, sitting in the enclosure from 12pm+ till 3.45pm, but I had my Vita and Dragon’s Crown to accompany me, so I wasn’t completely bored all the way. There was a 2K Games booth behind the stage for WWE’13, a game that I already own, so I didn’t really care much about it. At around 3pm+, the emcee for the day came out (and unfortunately, I have no idea who he is or what his name was), and I could instantly tell that he was a diehard wrestling fan just like the rest of us. He kept us entertained during the wait, asking trivia to give out prizes, and we even got “Yes, Yes, Yes!” and CM Punk chants going.
Booker T came out at 3.45pm, accompanied by a huge, bald muscular bodyguard who looks a bit like Bill Goldberg. The emcee asked him lots of fun questions, some of them kayfabe, like “What do you feel about stepping down as SmackDown General Manager?”, to which Booker replied: “I’m still feeling a little bit hot about what Teddie Long did.”
When asked if he was fully retired from wrestling, Booker replied with a very direct “No, I am not fully retired”, and that if he could wrestle one more match against an opponent of his choosing, it would be against Shawn Michaels. I cannot remember a single match that these two have faced each other one-on-one in the ring, and it seems like a great choice… if you can convince HBK to come out of retirement first, sucka.
And then it was time for the autograph session and meet-and-greet. By the time it got to my turn, I was already super tired and drained from all the waiting and standing (not to mention I also woke up at 6am that day). I didn’t say a word to him, just a quick exchange of smiles, handshakes, and a nice photo to remember the occassion.
I can finally meet a pro wrestler in-person. In the future, I hope I can get to meet CM Punk, Lisa Marie Varon (Victoria/Tara), and AJ Styles face-to-face too.
