  1. To me, this depends how you see things really.

I completely understand your argument: the original game and its themes made for a, if not at all happy, incredible game. Changing it is something that disregards the author’s work in a way, that’s a fact.
A note however: only the author herself could really say if she feels bad about it or not, so without her comment on the matter there is no way to go further on this topic.

In my view of things, all the stories co-exist. I see every path as a parallel universe with its own kirks and differences, and so another universe where there is a way to stop a character from doing something is just that: another version of a story taking place in the same kind of universe. Because of that, since it happened in one of the possible universes I read about, I accept the death of *Mute.

But how or why would that stop me from reading another story where she might not do it ? Well, it doesn’t really. Does it lower the impact ? Not from my point of view.

When I read you, telling “that mod is a bad idea”, I can’t help but think it is the same as saying “all fanfictions on any work are a bad idea”. But wouldn’t that be disregarding fan’s imagination ? Why is it bad to reimagine a story the way we want ?

I’m pretty sure that’s not the point you want to make, though. And that’s why I’m posting this (please correct me if I’m wrong):
I think what you want to say is “Not accepting the death of that character is a bas idea”. And I agree with you. Life is hard, stories can be hard.

On another note, if you liked this story for its hard, cold truths and complicated drama… may I suggest you read Umineko No Naku Koro Ni ? (that is, if you didn’t already :P)

    • Hi Draco, thank you for taking the time to comment.

I wholeheartedly approve of fanfiction. Some of the best stories I’ve read have come from carefully well-made fan works. For the L4RM mod however, it’s like you said: I am a bit disappointed that some players cannot accept her death. I am very sure that the developer is trying to teach us an important lesson here, and to learn how to accept *Mute’s decision.

It’s weird that you decided to recommend me Umineko. I have a gaming friend who is crazy about it, and I’ve always wanted to try it out but haven’t gotten around to it yet.
