Stumbled upon this feature article on the BBC News website a couple of days ago at work: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-20304302
This is one of the best articles I have read about singlehood. Whatever your reasons for being single — you haven’t found the right person; you’re not ready to settle down yet, etc. — be proud of it, and don’t ever let others put you down because of it.
To those who are married or in a relationship: congratulations. Treasure your love and cherish it. But please be kind to your friends who are single: do not chide us about it, do not tease us about it, and most important of all, please respect our circumstances and choices for being single. Having a partner does not give you power, or give you the right to feel superior over other people who are single.
To those who are single: accept yourself, and be content with what you have. If you’re alone, so what? Allowing yourself to be defined by other people will result in neverending unhappiness. Learn to love yourself first before you love others.
